Soft & Chewy Sugar Cookies Recipe

These soft and chewy sugar cookies are perfect for any occasion. Lightly sweet, buttery, and easy to make, they melt in your mouth with every bite. Perfect for decorating or enjoying as-is with a cup of tea or coffee.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Extra sugar for rolling

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll into balls.
  7. Roll each ball in sugar and place on prepared baking sheets 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For extra soft cookies, slightly underbake and let them cool completely on the baking sheet.
