Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup active sourdough starter fed
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  3. Mix in sourdough starter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips evenly.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden and centers are soft.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Use a fed, active sourdough starter for best flavor and texture; underbaking slightly helps achieve gooey centers.
